This webinar will provide the results of a recent national USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) analysis of cover crop economics, including the impact of herbicide resistant weeds, soil compaction, cover crop grazing, tillage, and nutrient management on cover crop profitability. It will also cover expected yield impacts and bottom line returns from cover crops over time based on national survey data from hundreds of farmers. Specific numbers for corn and soybean profitability will be provided, but the information to be discussed is also relevant to other row crops.

Rob Myers is Regional Director of Extension Programs for the USDA North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Program and serves as the SARE National Liaison for Cover Crops and Soil Health. He also holds an appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Missouri. He has grown cover crops for over 20 field seasons and is a frequently invited speaker on topics related to cover crops and soil health. He served as Co-Chair of the National Working Group on Cover Crops and Soil Health and currently leads a Midwest region training effort on cover crops. He has a Ph.D. in Agronomy with a supporting emphasis in Agricultural Economics from the University of Minnesota. He also has a M.S. in Agronomy from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. in Agricultural Science from Illinois State University. Rob grew up on a family farm in central Illinois.
